Drive Pinion Flange and Seal: Installation

- Install the new pinion seal. Use Special Service Tool: 205-1020 Installer, Pinion Seal.
- Lubricate the pinion seal and pinion splines.
Material: Motorcraft® SAE 75W-85 Premium Synthetic Hypoid Gear Lubricant / XY-75W85-QL (WSS-M2C942-A)

NOTE: Align the index marks.
Install the pinion flange and a new washer and pinion nut.

NOTE: Never back off the pinion nut to reduce preload. If preload reduction is necessary, install a new collapsible spacer and pinion nut.
Tighten the nut.
- Use the special tool to prevent the flange from turning while tightening the nut. Remove the special tool when taking pinion bearing torque preload readings.
- Take frequent pinion bearing torque preload readings.
- The final reading must be 0.56 Nm (5 lb-in) more than the initial reading taken during removal.
- Align the index marks and position back the front driveshaft.
- Install new retainers and new bolts.
Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)
- Check the front differential fluid level. Refer to: Differential Fluid Level Check .
- Install the front brake pads. Refer to: Brake Pads - F-250/F-350 . Refer to: Brake Pads - F-450/F-550 .
