Power Running Board (PRB) - Overview
The PRB system is comprised of the following:
- RH and LHPRB
- RH and LHPRB end caps (front an back of the PRB)
- RH and LHPRB hinges
- RH and LHPRB motors
- RH and LHPRB connecting rods
- RBM
The PRB motors are on the front hinge of the respective PRB. Torsion bars are connected between the front and rear PRB hinges to keep the PRB movement even and smooth. The PRB motors are serviced as part of the front hinge. All other components are serviced separately.
The PRB system is intended to assist occupants to step into and out of the vehicle. This feature can be set to several different operating modes, using the information display controls on the steering wheel. The corresponding information is displayed on the message center. The available settings are AUTO, OFF, and OUT.
The RBM sets Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CM DTCs) to aid in system diagnostics. The PRB system will reverse PRB direction if there is an object interfering with movement or if there is excessive resistance due to debris or corrosion.
