Particulate Matter Sensor: Removal

NOTE: Pickup shown, chassis cab similar.

NOTE: Some vehicles built on or before 11/01/2016, the particulate matter sensor module is installed using adhesive tape and a locator pin during vehicle assembly. If removal of any of these components is required for service, the adhesive tape is not required for reinstallation. To reinstall, utilize pin fastener W717460-S300 to secure the module. Two pins are required for the particulate matter sensor module.

NOTE: The particulate matter module is serviced as an assembly with the particulate matter sensor.

NOTE: Pickup (wide frame) shown, chassis cab (narrow frame) similar. The Particulate Matter sensor component location is different between the pickup and the chassis cab model. For additional information, REFER to the component location in this information. All removal and installation steps are the same for both locations.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
NOTE: A 6 point flair nut crow's foot wrench (i.e. Snap-on tool FRH-300S or equivalent) must be used to torque out cold sensor. Exceeding to no more than 100 Nm. If the sensor can not be removed, heat the stainless steel boss to 392 deg. F using a heat gun (Rotunda tool 300-MASHG501A or equivalent) or a miniductor (Rotunda tool IDIMD-700 or equivalent). Do not apply direct heat to the sensor as this will cause damage to the sensor.

NOTE: Do not apply open flame.

NOTE: Verify temperature has been reached with an infrared thermometer (Rotunda tool MSC52224-C or equivalent).

Loosen the Particulate Matter sensor using a 6 point flair nut crow's foot wrench (i.e. Snap-on tool FRH-300S or equivalent).

Remove the particulate matter sensor and module.
- Disconnect the Particulate Matter sensor module electrical connector and disconnect the wiring retainer from the frame.
- Depress the retainer clips to release the module from the frame.
- Remove the Particulate Matter module and sensor assembly.
