Pinpoint Test B : The Cruise Control Is Inoperative - With Adaptive Steering

- B1 PERFORM A NETWORK TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the a network test.
Does the SASM and SCCM communicate on the network?
Yes GO to B2 No REFER to: Communications Network . - B2 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM self-test.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SECM self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes If PCM DTCs were retrieved, REFER to DTC Chart: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) . If SECM DTC B137F:11, B137F:17, B137F:2A, B137F:4A or C2003:11 was retrieved, GO to B4 If any other SECM DTCs were retrieved, REFER to: Adaptive Steering . No GO to B3 - B3 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH (BOO1) AND CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATOR SWITCH (BOO2) PARAMETER IDENTIFICATIONS (PIDS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view PCM PIDs.
- Using the table, monitor the PIDs BOO1 (stoplamp switch) and BOO2 (cruise control deactivator switch) while applying and releasing the brake pedal.

Do the PID values agree with the brake pedal position?
Yes GO to B4 No GO to Pinpoint Test C - B4 CHECK THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SECM active test.
- Using the scan tool select and activate each cruise control switch while monitoring the IPC message center.
Does the message center agree with each switch selection?
Yes If equipped with 6.2L or 6.8L, GO to B5 If equipped with 6.7L diesel, GO to B6 No If one or more cruise control switch selections do not display on the IPC message center, GO to B7 - B5 MONITOR THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) TR (TRANSMISSION RANGE) PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view PCM PIDs.
- Monitor the PCMPID: TR.
- Place the shift selector in DRIVE.
Does the PID value agree with the TR selector lever position?
Yes GO to B8 No REFER to: External Controls . - B6 MONITOR THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view TCM PIDs.
- Monitor the TCMPID: TR
- Place the shift selector in DRIVE.
Does the PID value agree with the TR selector lever position?
Yes GO to B9 No REFER to: External Controls . - B7 CHECK THE CRUISE CONTROL STEERING WHEEL SWITCH
- Disconnect the cruise control steering wheel switch. REFER to: Steering Wheel Multifunction Switch .
- While pressing the cruise control ON/OFF and RES/CNCL switch, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2490-4 (component side) C2490-5 (component side) Resistance Specification
Button Pressed Resistance Range Button not pressed 488-540 ohms ON/OFF 57-63 ohms RES/CNCL 175-193 ohms
- While pressing the cruise control GAP+/GAP- switch, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2490-7 (component side) C2490-5 (component side) Resistance Specification
Button Pressed Resistance Range Button not pressed 488-540 ohms GAP- 57-63 ohms GAP+ 175-193 ohms
- While pressing the cruise control SET+ and SET- switch, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2490-6 (component side) C2490-5 (component side) Resistance Specification
Button Pressed Resistance Range Button not pressed 488-540 ohms SET+ 175-193 ohms SET- 57-63 ohms
Do the resistances fall between the specified ranges?
Yes REPAIR the circuit in question. No INSTALL a new cruise control steering wheel switch. REFER to: Steering Wheel Multifunction Switch . - B8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all PCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, Refer to PCM Guided Routine . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - B9 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all TCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the TCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
