Spring - F-250/F-350: Installation

  1. NOTE: Tighten the fasteners with the suspension loaded or with the weight of the vehicle resting on the wheels and tires, otherwise incorrect clamp load and bushing damage may occur.
    NOTE: Only tighten the nut and bolt finger tight at this stage.

    If necessary. Position the rear spring shackle onto the spring and install the new spring-to-shackle nut and bolt.

  2. If equipped. Make sure that the spring spacer is properly positioned with the arrow facing towards the front of the vehicle.

  3. Position the rear spring assembly.

  4. NOTE: Only tighten the nut and bolt finger tight at this stage.

    Install the new spring shackle-to-frame bolt and flagnut.

  5. NOTE: The LH spring-to-frame bolt must be installed with the bolt head facing the fuel tank.
    NOTE: Only tighten the nut and bolt finger tight at this stage.

    Install the new spring-to-frame nut and bolt.

    1. NOTE: Verify U-bolts are perpendicular and on center to leaf spring. Maintain equal side-to-side clearance to leaf spring stack when securing.

      Install the new U-bolts.

    2. Install the U-bolt plate.
    3. NOTE: Only tighten the nuts finger tight at this stage.

      Install the new U-bolt nuts.

  6. Lower the vehicle until the weight of the vehicle is resting on the wheels and tires (curb height).
  7. Tighten the new spring shackle-to-frame bolt and flagnut.

    Torque: 173 lb.ft (235 Nm)

  8. If necessary. Tighten the new spring-to-shackle nut and bolt.

    Torque: 173 lb.ft (235 Nm)

  9. Tighten the new spring-to-frame nut and bolt.

    Torque: 490 lb.ft (665 Nm)

  10. NOTE: Vehicles equipped with midship fuel tank.

    For the LH spring, raise the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank - Vehicles With: Midship Fuel Tank 6.2L V8 . Refer to: Fuel Tank - Vehicles With: Midship Fuel Tank 6.8L Triton-30V - V10 . Refer to: Fuel Tank - Vehicles With: Midship Fuel Tank 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel .

  11. Tighten the new U-bolt nuts in a cross pattern in 4 stages.

    Torque:

    SRW Vehicles:

    :Stage 1: 48 lb.ft (65 Nm)

    Stage 2: 96 lb.ft (130 Nm)

    Stage 3: 148 lb.ft (200 Nm)

    Stage 4: 195 lb.ft (265 Nm)

    DRW Vehicles:

    Stage 5: 74 lb.ft (100 Nm)

    Stage 6: 148 lb.ft (200 Nm)

    Stage 7: 221 lb.ft (300 Nm)

    Stage 8: 295 lb.ft (400 Nm)

  12. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Single Rear Wheels . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .
