Oil Pump: Installation

  1. Prime the oil pump. Add 2 tablespoons of clean engine oil to the oil pump and rotate the oil pump by hand. Refer to: Specifications  .
  2. Install the oil pump and tighten the bolts in sequence shown in 2 stages.

    Torque: Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    Stage 2: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

  3. Install the oil pump sprocket and bolt.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    1. Position the oil pump chain on the oil pump sprocket and install the tensioner, spring and the shoulder bolts.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    2. Push the tensioner spring down and position the spring under the shoulder bolt.

  4. Install a new O-ring seal.

  5. Install the oil pump screen and pickup tube and tighten the bolts in two stages.

    Torque: Stage 1: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    Stage 2: 50°

  6. NOTE: The component must be installed within 10 minutes of applying the sealant.

    Apply a 3 mm bead of silicone sealant to the oil pan-to-engine block mating surfaces.

    Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  7. NOTE: Note the different lengths of the bolts.
    NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

    Install the oil pan and the bolts.

  8. Tighten the bolts in sequence shown in illustration.

    Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

  9. Install the oil pan-to-transmission bolt.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    1. NOTE: Only tighten the nut and bolts finger tight at this stage.

      Position back the A/C compressor and install the nut, the stud and the bolts finger tight.

      Remove the General Equipment: Cable Ties

    2. Tighten the stud.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

    3. NOTE: Note the different lengths of the bolts.

      Tighten the bolt.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    4. NOTE: Note the different lengths of the bolts.

      Tighten the bolt.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    5. Tighten the nut.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    6. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  10. Disconnect the A/C compressor upper electrical connector.

  11. NOTE: Lubricate the engine oil filter gasket with clean engine oil prior to installing the oil filter.

    Install a new engine oil filter.

    Torque: Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    Stage 2: 180°

  12. Using a trolley jack and wooden block, support the engine.

  13. Remove the special tool.

    Remove Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine, 303-290-05A Adapter for 303-290A, 303-290B-19 Adapter for 303-290B.

  14. Install the upper dash panel reinforcement. Position the hoses and the wiring back.

  16. Install the engine front cover. Refer to: Engine Front Cover .
  17. Install the oil level indicator.

  18. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .
