Oil Pan: Installation

  1. NOTE: The component must be installed within 10 minutes of applying the sealant.

    Apply a 3 mm bead of silicone sealant to the oil pan-to-engine block mating surfaces.

    Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  2. NOTE: This step does not apply if the engine front cover is removed.
    NOTE: Do not apply sealant to oil pan-to-engine front cover mating surface if the engine front cover is removed.
    NOTE: The component must be installed within 10 minutes of applying the sealant.

    Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  3. NOTE: Note the different lengths of the bolts.
    NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

    Install the oil pan and the bolts.

  4. NOTE: The engine front cover-to-oil pan fasteners must be tightened first to align the front surface of the oil pan flush with the front surface of the engine block.
    NOTE: This step does not apply if the engine front cover is removed.

    Install the engine front cover-to-oil pan bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  5. Tighten the bolts in sequence shown in illustration.

    Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

  6. NOTE: This step does not apply if the engine front cover is removed.
    NOTE: Alternate tightening the LH transmission-to-engine and RH engine-to-transmission bolts to draw the transmission and engine together.

    Tighten the bolts and the stud bolt.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  7. Install the oil pan-to-transmission bolt.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  8. NOTE: This step does not apply if the engine front cover is removed.

    Install the engine roll restrictor.

    Torque: 63 lb.ft (86 Nm)

    1. NOTE: Only tighten the nut and bolts finger tight at this stage.

      Position back the A/C compressor and install the nut, the stud and the bolts finger tight.

      Remove the General Equipment: Cable Ties

    2. Tighten the stud.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

    3. NOTE: Note the different lengths of the bolts.

      Tighten the bolt.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    4. NOTE: Note the different lengths of the bolts.

      Tighten the bolt.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    5. Tighten the nut.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    6. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  9. Disconnect the A/C compressor upper electrical connector.

  10. NOTE: Lubricate the engine oil filter gasket with clean engine oil prior to installing the oil filter.

    Install a new engine oil filter.

    Torque: Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    Stage 2: 180°

  11. Install the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt .
  12. NOTE: This step does not apply if the engine front cover is removed.

    Install the upper transmission-to-engine stud bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  13. Attach the wiring harness clips and tighten the nut.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  14. NOTE: This steps does not apply if the engine front cover is removed.

    Install the following items:

    1. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    2. Install the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .

  15. Install the oil level indicator.

  16. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .
