Warning Chimes - System Operation and Component Description: Chimes

Airbag Secondary Warning

The airbag warning chime warns the airbag warning indicator is inoperative. If the IPC detects a fault in the airbag warning indicator when a SRS fault condition exists and the RCM has sent the IPC the airbag indicator request, the airbag warning chime sounds and the message center displays a warning message.

CTA Warning

The CTA warning chime sounds to alert the driver that a vehicle has been detected or that there is a system fault. The IPC receives the cross traffic alert status-left, cross traffic alert status-right, cross traffic alert sensor status-left and cross traffic alert sensor-right messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the cross traffic alert status-left and cross traffic alert sensor status-left message from the SODL over the MS-CAN. The GWM receives the cross traffic alert status-right and cross traffic alert sensor status-right messages from the SODR over the MS-CAN.

Door Ajar Warning

The door ajar warning chime warns that a door is ajar. The IPC receives the driver door ajar status, passenger door ajar status, left rear door ajar status, right rear door ajar status, rear cargo door ajar and hood ajar messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the driver door ajar status, passenger door ajar status, left rear door ajar status, right rear door ajar status, rear cargo door ajar and hood ajar messages from the BCM over the HS-CAN1. When a door becomes ajar while the ignition is in RUN with vehicle speed greater than 3 km/h (1.6 mph), the IPC sounds a repetitive chime until the door is closed.

Forward Collision Alert

When the forward collision alert system detects a possible collision event, a warning chime will sound to alert the driver. The IPC receives the forward collision chime request and collision avoidance chime request messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the forward collision chime request and collision avoidance chime request messages from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.

Lights On Warning

The lights on warning chime warns that the exterior lamps are on when the driver door is ajar and the key is removed from the ignition lock cylinder or ignition is off (push-button start). The IPC receives the parklamp status and driver door ajar messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM receives the parklamp status and driver door ajar messages from the BCM over the HS-CAN1. The lights on warning chime sounds a repetitive chime tone if the driver door is ajar, the headlamp switch is in the parklamp position and the ignition is OFF.

Key-In-Ignition Warning

The key-in-ignition warning chime warns that the key is still in the ignition lock cylinder when the driver door is ajar. The IPC receives the key-in-ignition status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the key-in-ignition status from the BCM over the HS-CAN1. The key-in-ignition warning chime sounds when the driver door is ajar, the key is in the ignition lock cylinder and in the off/lock or accessory position.

Low Fuel Warning

The low fuel warning chime sounds to draw the driver's attention to the low fuel warning indicator operation and inform the driver of a low fuel condition. The chime sounds when the low fuel warning indicator illuminates.

PRNDL Not-In-Park Warning

The IPC provides a PRNDL not in park warning chime that sounds to inform the driver the vehicle is not in PARK (P). The IPC requires the transmission gear display mode, brake pedal applied and door ajar status messages to control the PRNDL not-in-park chime. The IPC receives all inputs from the GWM over the HS-CAN3.

The GWM receives the transmission gear display mode (gas engine) and the brake pedal applied messaged input from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.

The GWM receives the transmission gear display mode (diesel engine) from the TCM over the HS-CAN1.

The GWM receives the door ajar status message from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.

Parking Aid

The parking aid system uses a visual display and a chime to alert the driver objects are close to the vehicle. The parking aid chime sounds a repetitive chime tone that decreases the time off between chime tones as objects get closer to the sensor until a continuous tone is heard through the audio speakers. The IPC receives the front park aid chime request and rear park aid chime request messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the front park aid chime request and rear park aid chime request messages from the PAM over the HS-CAN1.

Parking Brake Warning

NOTE: The parking brake warning chime only sounds when the vehicle is in motion.

The parking brake warning chime warns that the parking brake is engaged when the vehicle is in motion. The parking brake warning chime sounds if the ignition is in RUN, the parking brake is engaged, and the vehicle speed is greater than 10 km/h (5 mph). The parking brake warning chime stops sounding and resets if the parking brake is released, the ignition is not in the RUN mode or the vehicle speed is less than 10 km/h (5 mph) and after the IPC first illuminates the brake warning indicator and displays the parking brake warning message. The IPC receives the parking brake chime request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the parking brake chime request from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.

Seatbelt Warning

NOTE: Whenever the vehicle is operated using MyKey®, the IPC enables the seatbelt reminder.

The seatbelt reminder is configurable on and off for the driver seating position. Refer to SEATBELT MINDER DEACTIVATING ACTIVATING .

The seatbelt reminder feature supplements the current seatbelt warning function and is enabled after the current seatbelt warning is complete by reminding the driver that the driver seatbelt is unbuckled. The seatbelt reminder intermittently sounds a chime and simultaneously illuminates the seatbelt warning indicator in the IPC. The seatbelt reminder begins once the current seatbelt warning has ended and the vehicle speed has exceeded 10 km/h (5 mph) with the driver seatbelt unbuckled. While activated, the seatbelt reminder chime provides a series of 6 chimes/seatbelt warning indicator flash sequences, which consist of a 1 second chime tone and seatbelt warning indicator on/off state.

If the vehicle speed drops below 5 km/h (3 mph) once the Belt-Minder® chime has activated, the chime turns off and the seatbelt warning indicator remains on. When the vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h (5 mph) again, the Belt-Minder® chime resumes.

The IPC controls the seatbelt reminder and receives the vehicle speed and driver seatbelt buckle status message from the GWM. The GWM receives the vehicle speed message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1 and the driver seatbelt buckle status message from the RCM over the HS-CAN2.

When MyKey® is in use, the driver cannot configure the seatbelt reminder off. Once the seatbelt reminder is activated, the seatbelt reminder continues to chime periodically (does not time out after 5 minutes) and the audio system is muted (except base AM/ FM audio system) until the driver seatbelt is fastened.

Turn Signal On Chime

The IPC provides a repetitive tick-tock along with visual RH/ LH turn indicator to inform the driver the turn signal or hazard lamp function is on. The turn signal on chime tone provides a speed compensated volume feature that uses vehicle speed to step up the volume of the chime tone.

The IPC receives the left turn lamp on request, right turn lamp on request and vehicle speed messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the left turn lamp on request and right turn lamp on request messages from the BCM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM receives the vehicle speed message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
