Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The wheel speed sensor and encoder (tone wheel) generate a square wave signal proportional to wheel speed and sends this information to the ABS module. The wheel bearing, encoder and wheel speed sensor must be undamaged and free from contamination to produce a clean signal for use by the ABS module. Also, all 4 tires and wheels must be of the same manufacturer recommended size for the wheel speed sensor to generate an accurate wheel speed. 

A test drive above 20 km/h (12 mph) is required to clear these ABS module wheel speed sensor DTCs.

PPT AB ABS MODULE DTC FAULT TRIGGER CONDITIONS

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
C0030:07, C0033: 07, C0036:07, C0039:07 Left Front, Right Front, Left Rear, Right Rear Tone Wheel: Mechanical Failure Sets when damage to the wheel speed sensor encoder, damage to the wheel bearing, or contamination or deformation of the wheel bearing seal affects the sensor input to the ABS module. On AWD vehicles, the rear tone rings are part of the axle half-shaft while the front tone rings are part of the wheel bearing assembly. On 2WD vehicles, all 4 tone rings are part of the wheel bearing assembly.
C0031:07, C0034: 07, C0037:07, C003A:07 Left Front, Right Front, Left Rear, Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Mechanical Failure Sets when the wheel speed sensor, encoder or wheel bearing is damaged; if the encoder is contaminated; if the wheel bearing is not installed correctly; if an incorrectly sized tire is installed; if an excessive air gap exists between the wheel speed sensor and the encoder due to an incorrect component being installed and it affects the sensor input to the ABS module.
C0031: 2F, C0034: 2F, C0037:2F, C003A:2F Left Front, Right Front, Left Rear, Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Erratic Sets when the wheel speed sensor is damaged, if the encoder is contaminated, if the encoder is missing or damaged, if there is an excessive gap between the sensor and encoder or high frequency interference and it affects the sensor input to the ABS module.
C0031: 64, C0034: 64, C0037:64, C003A:64 Left Front, Right Front, Left Rear, Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Plausibility Failure Sets when the wheel speed sensor is damaged, if the encoder is missing or damaged, if there is an excessive gap between the sensor and encoder, if the wrong sensor is installed (bidirectional versus unidirectional) or if the tire size is incorrect for the vehicle affects the sensor input to the ABS module.
