System Operation: Indicators

Prove-Out 

The IPC and other modules carry out a display prove-out to verify all module controlled warning/indicator lamps and monitored systems are functioning correctly within the IPC. The IPC and other modules, such as the RCM, provide a timed prove-out of some indicators while other indicators illuminate upon engine start up. When the ignition is cycled to on with the engine off, the indicators illuminate to prove-out according to the following table:

ABS Warning Indicator 

The IPC receives the ABS warning indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the ABS warning indicator request message from the module over the HS-CAN2. If a fault condition exists in the ABS, the ABS module sends the ABS warning indicator request message to either flash or illuminate the ABS warning indicator.

Airbag Warning Indicator 

The IPC receives the airbag indicator request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the airbag indicator request from the RCM over the HS-CAN2.

If a SRS concern is detected, the RCM sets a DTC and the IPC illuminates the airbag warning indicator. If the IPC detects a hardware fault with the airbag warning indicator, the IPC sets a DTC.

Auto Stop/Start Indicator 

The auto stop/start indicator informs the driver of the following status:

Indicator State System Status
Solid green The auto stop/start feature has temporarily turned off the engine.
Solid amber A stop/start system concern exists.
Flash in either green or amber A system state as determined by the PCM.

The IPC receives the stop/start standby indicator message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the stop/start standby indicator message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.

BLIS/ CTA Indicator 

The IPC uses the following messaged inputs to control the BLIS/ CTA indicator.

Network Message Condition
Cross traffic alert left status Indicates the CTA status from the SODL.
Cross traffic alert right status Indicates the CTA status from the SODR.
Cross traffic alert left sensor status Indicates the CTA sensor status from the SODL.
Cross traffic alert right sensor status Indicates the CTA sensor status from the SODR.
Side obstacle detect left status Indicates the BLIS status from the SODL.
Side obstacle detect right status Indicates the BLIS status from the SODR.
Side obstacle detect left sensor status Indicates the BLIS sensor status from the SODL.
Side obstacle detect right sensor status Indicates the BLIS sensor status from the SODR.

The IPC receives all required messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3.

The GWM receives all cross traffic alert-left messages and side obstacle detect-left messages from the SODL over the MS-CAN. The GWM receives all cross traffic alert-right messages and side obstacle detect-right messages from the SODR over the MS-CAN.

The blind spot information system indicator illuminates in the IPC when the system is turned off or if a system malfunction is detected.

Brake Warning Indicator 

The brake warning indicator informs the driver the brake fluid is low, there is a failure in the brake system or the park brake is applied. The IPC uses the following messaged inputs to control the brake warning indicator.

Network Message Condition
Brake (red) warning indicator request Indicates a brake system concern from the ABS.
Brake warning indicator request Indicates a low brake fluid level concern.
Parking brake warning indicator Indicates the parking brake is applied.

The IPC receives all netwok messages required to operate the brake warning indicator from the GWM over the HS-CAN3.

The GWM receives the brake (red) warning indicator request and the parking brake warning indicator messages from the ABS module over the HS-CAN2.

The GWM receives the brake warning indicator request from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.

Charging System Warning Indicator 

The IPC receives the charging system indicator request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the charging system indicator request from the BCM over the HS-CAN1. When a fault is detected in the charging system, the BCM sends the charging system indicator request to illuminate the charging system warning indicator.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid Level Indicator 

The IPC illuminates the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator when a low fluid condition, fluid contamination or system malfunction is detected.

The IPC receives the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator request from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.

Door Ajar Indicator 

The BCM monitors each of the ajar inputs and sends a driver door ajar status, passenger door ajar status, left rear door ajar status, right rear door ajar status, rear cargo door ajar status or hood ajar status message to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM sends the driver door ajar status, passenger door ajar status, left rear door ajar status, right rear door ajar status, rear cargo door ajar status or hood ajar status message to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 to illuminate the door ajar indicator.

Engine Over-Temperature Warning Indicator 

The IPC provides the engine over-temperature warning indicator to indicate the engine temperature has exceeded the normal range. The IPC receives the engine coolant temperature and engine over-temperature indicator messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the engine coolant temperature and engine over-temperature indicator messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.

Forward Collision Warning 

The forward collision warning system indicator illuminates in the IPC to warn the driver the vehicle is rapidly approaching another vehicle, to indicate the system is turned off or to indicate the system is not available and requires service.

The IPC receives the forward collision warning indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the forward collsion warning indicator request message from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.

Front Fog Lamp Indicator 

The IPC provides the front fog lamp indicator to indicate the front fog lamps are turned on. The IPC receives a front fog lamp indicator status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives a front fog lamp indicator status message from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.

Glow Plug (Wait To Start) Indicator (Diesel Only) 

The IPC receives the glow plug indication request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the glow plug indication request from the PCM over the HS-CAN1. When the engine is cold and the ignition is first placed in the ON position, the PCM sends the IPC a request to illuminate the glow plug (wait to start) indicator.

High Beam Indicator 

When the high beams are turned on, the BCM sends a high beam status message to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM sends the high beam status message to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 to illuminate the high beam indicator.

Lane Keeping Alert Indicator 

When the lane keeping system is turned on, the IPMA sends a lane keep assist system status display message to the GWM over the HS-CAN2. The GWM sends a lane keep assist system status display message to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 to illuminate the lane keeping alert indicator.

LH-RH Turn Signal Indicator 

When the multifunction switch is in the LH or RH turn position or if the hazard switch is on, the LH turn indicator and RH turn indicator messages are sent to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 from the GWM. The GWM receives the LH turn indicator and RH turn indicator messages from the BCM over the HS-CAN1. Upon receipt of the applicable turn signal on/off request, the IPC flashes the turn signal indicator on and off.

Lights On Indicator 

When the vehicle exterior lamps are turned on, the BCM sends the park lamp status message to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM sends the park lamp status message to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 to illuminate the lights on indicator.

Low Fuel Indicator 

The IPC provides the low fuel indicator to indicate the fuel level is low at several preset stages before the driver runs out of fuel. The IPC uses the calculated DTE to control the low fuel indicator.

Low Engine Oil Pressure Warning Indicator 

The engine oil pressure switch is hardwired to the PCM. The IPC receives the engine oil pressure warning indicator request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the engine oil pressure warning indicator request from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.

MIL 

The IPC receives the MIL request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the MIL request from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.

Powertrain Malfunction (Wrench) Indicator 

The IPC provides the powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator to indicate an emission control system malfunction. The IPC receives the engine service required, transmission service required and body service required messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3.

The GWM receives the engine service required message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.

The GWM receives the transmission service required message from the PCM (gas engine) or TCM (diesel engine) over the HS-CAN1.

The GWM receives the body service required message from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.

Seatbelt Warning Indicator 

The RCM monitors the seatbelt position through the driver and passenger seatbelt buckle switch. The RCM provides the driver seatbelt buckle status and passenger seatbelt buckle status messages to the GWM over the HS-CAN2. The GWM provides the driver seatbelt buckle status and passenger seatbelt buckle status messages to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 to either turn on or turn off the seatbelt warning indicator.

Stability-Traction Control Indicator (Sliding Car Icon) 

The IPC receives the stability/traction control indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the stability/traction control indicator request message from the ABS module over the HS-CAN2. The stability-traction control indicator (sliding car icon) flashes when the vehicle stability-traction control is in active mode, and illuminates continuously if a fault condition exists in the stability-traction control system. The IPC monitors the stability/traction control indication message and either flashes the stability-traction control indicator (sliding car icon) or illuminates it steadily depending on the condition.

Stability-Traction Control Disabled Indicator (Sliding Car OFF Icon) 

The stability-traction control is turned on/off with the dedicated traction control disable switch. When the driver enables or disables the stability-traction control system, a hard-wired input signal is sent to the IPC. The IPC sends a stability-traction control switch request message to the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM sends the stability-traction control switch request message to the ABS module over the HS-CAN2 to disable the stability-traction control.

When the stability-traction control is turned off or a system fault is detected that disables the stability-traction control system, the ABS module sends the stability-traction control disabled indicator request message to the GWM over the HS-CAN2. The GWM sends the stability-traction control disabled indicator request message to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 to illuminate or turn off the stability-traction control disabled indicator (sliding car OFF icon) based upon the system state.

When a MyKey® administrator has set the AdvanceTrac® On feature to always on and a MyKey® programmed key is in use, the stability-traction control system cannot be disabled. The stability-traction control indicator still functions normally to indicate a stability-traction control system fault and a stability-traction control active event.

TPMS Warning Indicator 

If the BCM determines that the tire pressure has exceeded the low tire pressure limits, the tire pressure indication message is sent to the IPC through the GWM to illuminate the TPMS warning indicator. If a TPMS fault condition exists, the BCM sends the tire pressure indication message to the IPC through the GWM to flash the TPMS warning indicator.

Water In Fuel Warning Indicator (Diesel Only) 

The water in fuel indicator informs the driver that water has been detected in the fuel. The IPC receives a water in fuel message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives a water in fuel message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
