6-Speed Manual Transmission - MT82/10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- If equipped with strut tower cross brace, disconnect the positive battery cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- If equipped with strut tower cross brace, detach the wiring harness retainer and position the positive battery cable aside.

- If equipped, remove the nuts and the strut tower cross brace.
- Discard the nuts.
- Remove the nuts and the engine appearance cover.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the screws, bolts and the underbody shield.
- Remove the pin-type retainers and the hood insulation.

- Detach the windshield washer hose retainers.
- Disconnect the windshield washer hose couplings. Refer to: Washer Hose Coupling .

NOTE: RH side shown, LH similar.
Index-mark the hood hinge location to aid in hood installation.
- Remove the nuts and the hood.
- Remove the degas bottle. Refer to: Degas Bottle .
- Remove the upper radiator hose from the coolant tube. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the following items:
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Remove the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt .
- Disconnect the CAC valve electrical connector and the retainers.
- Detach and disconnect the engine harness electrical connector.
- Disconnect the upper PCM electrical connector and the retainer.
- Loosen the clamp and position aside the CAC inlet tube.
- Loosen the clamp and position aside the CAC outlet tube.
- Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the retainer and the brake vacuum pump insulator cover.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake vacuum pump.
- Remove the nut and the engine ground strap from the cowl.

NOTE: It is necessary to move fuel tube retainer for access for the use of fuel disconnect tool.
- Detach the fuel supply tube retainer from the cowl.
- Slide the retainer down the fuel supply tube.
- Remove the fuel supply tube spring lock coupling retainer.
- Disconnect the fuel supply tube. Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings

- Disconnect the vacuum tube quick release coupling from the EVAP canister purge valve.
- Detach the vacuum tube from the intake manifold retainer.
- Disconnect the coolant hoses from the heater core.
- Detach and disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connectors and the wire harness retainers.
- Remove the bolts, position and support the A/C compressor aside.
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Remove the starter motor insulator.
- Detach the wire harness retainer from the LH engine mount bracket stud bolt.

NOTE: The engine ground wire may be located in one of the following locations.
- If equipped, remove the nut and ground wire from the LH engine mount bracket stud bolt.
- If equipped, remove the bolt and ground wire from the LH side of the engine block.
- Remove the rear bolt, stud bolt for the LH engine mount bracket.
- Remove the front lower bolt for the LH engine mount bracket.

- Remove the bolt and the wire harness retainer from the generator.
- Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
-
- Position the protective cover aside.
- Remove the nut and the B+ cable.
- Drain the engine oil and install drain plug. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80
- Remove the retainers and heat shield.
- Remove the retainers and position aside the NVH cover.
- Detach the transmission vent hose and retainer and remove.
- Detach the transmission wiring harness retainer from the coolant tube bracket.

Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor (CMS) sensor electrical connector.

Remove the bolts for the catalytic converter bracket.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
- Remove the nuts and position the catalytic converter aside.
- Discard the nuts.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Remove and discard the gasket.

NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.
Remove the nut and position the coolant tube bracket aside.
-
NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.
Remove the transmission bolts.

10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80

- Disconnect the transmission electrical connector.
- Detach the retainers and position the wiring harness aside.

NOTE: Only rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction.NOTE: Index mark one stud and the flexplate for assembly reference.
Remove and discard the torque convertor nuts. Use the General Equipment: Magnetic Socket
- Remove the nut from the RH engine mount bracket stud bolt for the transmission cooling tubes.
- Remove the transmission cooling tube bracket nut and position aside.
6-Speed Manual Transmission - MT82/10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80
- Remove the rear bolts for the RH engine mount bracket.
- Remove the front lower stud bolt for the RH engine mount bracket.

NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.
Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Install the special tool on the LH side of the cylinder head. Install Special Service Tool: 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.

NOTE: Coolant tube removed for clarity.
Install the special tool on the RH side of the cylinder head. Install Special Service Tool: 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.
- Install Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1819E 2, 200# Floor Crane, Fold Away.
- Install a jack and wooden block under the transmission bell housing to support the transmission. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block Use the General Equipment: Trolley Jack

Remove the oil pan bolt.
- Remove the RH and LH engine mount bracket nuts.
- Remove the front upper bolt and the LH engine mount bracket.
- Remove the front upper bolt and the RH engine mount bracket.
- Using the special tool, remove the engine. Use Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1819E 2, 200# Floor Crane, Fold Away.
