6-Speed Manual Transmission - MT82/10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  4. If equipped with strut tower cross brace, disconnect the positive battery cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  5. If equipped with strut tower cross brace, detach the wiring harness retainer and position the positive battery cable aside.

    • If equipped, remove the nuts and the strut tower cross brace.

    • Discard the nuts.

  6. Remove the nuts and the engine appearance cover.

  7. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  8. Remove the screws, bolts and the underbody shield.

  9. Remove the pin-type retainers and the hood insulation.

    1. Detach the windshield washer hose retainers.
    2. Disconnect the windshield washer hose couplings. Refer to: Washer Hose Coupling .

    Index-mark the hood hinge location to aid in hood installation.

  11. Remove the nuts and the hood.

  12. Remove the degas bottle. Refer to: Degas Bottle .
  13. Remove the upper radiator hose from the coolant tube. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  14. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    2. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    3. Remove the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt .

  15. Disconnect the CAC valve electrical connector and the retainers.

  20. Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  21. Remove the retainer and the brake vacuum pump insulator cover.

  24. NOTE: It is necessary to move fuel tube retainer for access for the use of fuel disconnect tool.

    1. Detach the fuel supply tube retainer from the cowl.
    2. Slide the retainer down the fuel supply tube.

    • Disconnect the vacuum tube quick release coupling from the EVAP canister purge valve.

    • Detach the vacuum tube from the intake manifold retainer.

  27. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the heater core.

  28. Detach and disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

  31. Remove the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
  32. Remove the starter motor insulator.

  34. NOTE: The engine ground wire may be located in one of the following locations.

    1. If equipped, remove the nut and ground wire from the LH engine mount bracket stud bolt.
    2. If equipped, remove the bolt and ground wire from the LH side of the engine block.

    • Remove the bolt and the wire harness retainer from the generator.

    • Disconnect the generator electrical connector.

    • Position the protective cover aside.

    • Remove the nut and the B+ cable.

  37. Drain the engine oil and install drain plug. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

    Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor (CMS) sensor electrical connector.

    • Detach the retainers and position the wiring harness aside.

  51. NOTE: Only rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction.
    NOTE: Index mark one stud and the flexplate for assembly reference.

    Remove and discard the torque convertor nuts. Use the General Equipment: Magnetic Socket
