Muffler and Tailpipe: Removal

Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - GT500 - Overview .

- Remove the rear bolts from the deflector - rear axle air.
Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- Remove the push pin retainers.
- Remove the front bolts from the deflector - rear axle air.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
- Remove the deflector - rear axle air rivet style push pin retainers.
- Remove the deflector - rear axle air.
- Remove the rear bolts from the deflector - rear axle air.

NOTE: LH side shown in illustration, RH similar.NOTE: Bumper not shown in illustration for clarity.
Disconnect the LH and RH tailpipe actuator electrical connectors. Detach the wiring retainers.

NOTE: Mark the location of the clamps and the position of locking tabs.

- Loosen the LH and RH clamp nuts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Release the locking tabs on the clamps.
- Position the clamps rearward.
- Loosen the LH and RH clamp nuts.

NOTE: Bumper not shown in illustration for clarity.
- Remove the LH and RH rear exhaust hanger isolator bracket bolts from the rear subframe.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Unhook the rear exhaust hanger isolators and remove the muffler and tailpipe.
- Remove the LH and RH rear exhaust hanger isolator bracket bolts from the rear subframe.
