Fuel Tank: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation steps.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  2. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: FUEL TANK DRAINING .
  3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  4. Remove the muffler and tailpipe. Refer to: MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE .
  5. Remove the drive shaft. Refer to: Driveshaft .
  6. Release the clamp and disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe from the fuel tank.

  7. Using an appropriate impact tool and a TP50 "Torx Plus" Socket Driver, remove the fuel tank strap bolts.

  8. NOTE: Once the fuel tank is removed from the vehicle, reinstall the driveshaft center support bearing bolts by hand and support the rear of the driveshaft with a jackstand or mechanics wire.

    1. Lower the front of the fuel tank and heat shield assembly.
    2. Remove the fuel tank and heat shield assembly.
