Catalytic Converter: Removal

NOTE:
If the catalytic converter is not being replaced, the HO2S and the catalyst monitor sensor do not need to be removed from the catalytic converter. Disconnecting the electrical connectors is still necessary.
NOTE:

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

- Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.
- Remove and discard the nuts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.

- Loosen the clamp and release the tab and slide the clamp back on the muffler. Separate the muffler and tailpipe from the catalytic converter.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Detach the exhaust isolator.
- Loosen the clamp and release the tab and slide the clamp back on the muffler. Separate the muffler and tailpipe from the catalytic converter.
- Vehicles with Manual Transmission: Remove the bolts and the catalytic converter.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Vehicles with Automatic Transmission: Remove the bolts and the catalytic converter.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Remove and discard the gasket.
