Manual Transmission - Overview: Overview
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
The 3160 6-speed manual transmission features:
- six forward speeds and one reverse speed.
- forward gears are synchronized and helical cut.
- a reverse gear operates through a constant-mesh, fully synchronized system.
- a shift interlock system prevents the engagement of more than one gear.
- removable wear pads on the shift forks.
- an aluminum main case, extension housing and clutch housing.
- an oil pump in the clutch housing for fluid cooling.
This transmission multiplies and transfers torque from the engine crankshaft to the rear differential driveshaft. It is a coaxial transmission with three shafts. The input shaft as well as the output shaft lie on a single axis. All gear wheels have helical teeth and are constantly engaged. The transmission is designed for a maximum torque of 576 Nm. It has roller ball detents and linear shift rail bearings to reduce shift effort. The 3160 uses double and triple cone hybrid and sintered bronze synchronizers on all gears. The transmission fluid is designed to last the entire service life of the transmission and does not need to be changed during servicing.
