- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
During the build process, transmission hardware characterization data is captured. The TRID data shows where a specific transmission's components lie within the production variability. This data is flashed onto the TCM so the vehicle can achieve smooth, quality shifts.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition TCM P163E:00 Transmission Control Module Programming Error: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the transmission identification version is incorrect or the transmission identification block checksum is invalid. TCM P163F:00 Transmission ID Block Corrupted, Not Programmed: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the transmission identification is not programmed in the TCM. TCM P287C:00 Transmission Adaptive Values Not Learned: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates a learn data fault that occurred during TCM initialization, while programming the transmission identification, or during the learn routine. Possible Sources
- Incorrect or corrupted TCM calibration.

- Z1 PROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION IDENTIFICATION
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the Transmission Characterization/Solenoid IDN (identification number) routine.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the Clear TCM CMDTC routine.
- Start the engine.
- Let the engine idle for 1 minute.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the Retrieve TCM CMDTC routine.
Is DTC P163E or P163F present in the PCM?
Yes INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to incorrect repair procedure or a programming error.
