Pinpoint Test A: DTC P0218
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
There are two TFT sensors, one mounted in the transmission shift actuator valve body (TFT sensor "A"), and one mounted in the transmission clutch control valve body (TFT sensor "B"). The TFT sensors are temperature dependent resistors that are in contact with the transmission fluid. The TCM monitors the voltage drop across the TFT sensors, which changes as the temperature varies. The TCM uses the TFT sensor signals as an input for shifting strategy and for transmission fault detection and diagnostics.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition PCM P0218:00 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor 'A' Over Temperature Condition: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a transmission over temperature condition. The PCM will limit engine torque to prevent further overheating. If any TFT circuit diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are present, RESOLVE those first. Possible Sources
- TFT sensor circuit fault
- Transmission overheating condition
- A1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.
Are any TFT circuit diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present?
Yes RESOLVE all TFT circuit diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to: DTC Chart and Pinpoint Tests . No To diagnose an overheating concern, GO to Pinpoint Test D
