Secondary Timing Chain Tensioner: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
NOTE:
If the RH secondary timing chain tensioner being serviced at the same time as the LH secondary timing chain tensioner, remove the RH secondary timing chain tensioner first.
Right hand secondary timing chain tensioner
- Remove the RH variable camshaft timing (VCT) units. Refer to: Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) Oil Control Solenoid .
- Remove the secondary timing chain tensioner shoe.
- Remove the secondary timing chain tensioner by pushing up from the bottom.
- Discard the secondary timing chain tensioner.
Left hand secondary timing chain tensioner
- Remove the LH variable camshaft timing (VCT) units. Refer to: Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) Oil Control Solenoid .
- Remove the secondary timing chain tensioner shoe.
- Remove the secondary timing chain tensioner by pushing up from the bottom.
- Discard the secondary timing chain tensioner.
