Pinpoint Test Bu: The Power Liftgate Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Power Liftgate Warning Chime. REFER to: Warning Chimes - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • Power liftgate concern
    • RGTM
    • GWM
    • IPC

  2. BU1 CHECK THE SEATBELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Monitor the seatbelt warning chime when the ignition switch is transitioned from OFF to RUN for 6 seconds.

    Does the seatbelt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds? 

    Yes  GO to  BU2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test BM 
  3. BU2 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE POWER LIFTGATE

    • Open and close the power liftgate.

    Does the power liftgate operate correctly in both the open and close modes? 

    Yes  GO to  BU3
    No  REFER to: Body Closures .
  4. BU3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  BU4
  5. BU4 PERFORM THE RGTM (REAR GATE TRUNK MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the RGTM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Closures .
    No  GO to  BU5
  6. BU5 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Controller Area Network (CAN) Module Communications Network .
    No  GO to  BU6
  7. BU6 CHECK FOR CORRECT RGTM (REAR GATE TRUNK MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the RGTM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the RGTM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new RGTM. REFER to: Rear Gate Trunk Module (RGTM) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
