Parking Brake Cable Adjustment - 5 Ton Vehicle, Vehicles With: Drum-in-Hat

Adjustment 

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
2. Release parking brake lever.

3. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

   If installing a new front cable, apply 6 Nm (55 lb.in) torque to adjustment nut for 5 minutes and then release the torque.

4. If the multiplier adjustment gap is not between 2.5 - 3.0 mm, adjust the nut backward or forward to achieve 2.5 - 3.0 mm gap.

5. Tighten the locking nut without rotating the adjustment nut.

   Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

6. NOTE: Make sure that the components are correctly engaged.
   NOTE: Make sure that the road wheels freely rotate after the adjustment.

   Tighten the parking brake cable adjustment nut until the rear wheels meet the following criteria.

   • The Drum-in-Hat parking brake levers are engaged with the cable eyelet.
   • The rear wheels rotate freely after the adjustment.
