Message Center Displays
Adaptive Cruise Control (If Equipped)
The message center provides a display showing the ACC indicator, gap setting, set speed and a graphical image of a vehicle in front with a follow distance scale between the vehicles. The IPC receives the cruise control set speed display, cruise control status display and the adaptive cruise control gap display messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the cruise control set speed display and cruise control status display messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM receives the adaptive cruise control gap display message from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.
Digital Speedometer
The IPC provides a redundant speedometer display in the message center. The IPC receives the vehicle speed message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the vehicle speed message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
DTE Display
The DTE is not calculated in the IPC and is shown as a permanent indication.
Lane Keeping System
The lane keeping system provides the driver with a lane keeping alert when unintentional drifting outside of the lane is detected. The IPC provides a lane keeping display with right and left lane markers to indicate the vehicle position with relation to the lane markings. The lane markings change color to indicate the condition associated with a specific condition and action or warning as controlled by the lane keeping system. When the system is switched on, an indicator appears in the instrument cluster and a graphic showing the lane markings displays.
The IPC receives the lane keeping alert system status display message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3.
The GWM receives the lane keeping alert system status display message from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.
MyKey® Function Message Display
The IPC provides message center displays for the MyKey® feature. MyKey® displays are controlled through the IPC software based on the MyKey® settings configured through the message center and the type of key in use (MyKey® or administrator key). The MyKey® function also uses other messages received by the IPC for other indications such as vehicle speed for speed limited displays.
Odometer
The IPC receives the odometer count, trip odometer verify and vehicle configuration messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the odometer count and trip odometer verify from the PCM module over the HS-CAN1. The GWM receives the vehicle configuration message from the BCM over the HS-CAN2. The IPC monitors the odometer count input and commands the odometer with a digital display in the message center.
Outside Air Temperature Display
The Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor provides the ambient air temperature data used for the outside air temperature display in the IPC. The ambient air temperature sensor is hardwired to the PCM through separate input and return circuits. The PCM provides a reference voltage to the ambient air temperature sensor and monitors the change in voltage resulting from changes in resistance as determined by outside air temperature.
The PCM sends the ambient air temperature data to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM sends the ambient air temperature data to the HVAC module over the MS-CAN. The HVAC module filters the ambient air temperature input and sends the outside air temperature message to the GWM over the MS-CAN. The GWM sends the outside air temperature message to the IPC over the HS-CAN3.
Due to the location of the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor, it is greatly influenced by heat generated from outside the vehicle. For this reason the outside air temperature value displayed in the IPC does not update quickly in the upward (hotter) direction under 38 km/h (24 mph). This update strategy is used because the PCM is unable to determine whether the increase in temperature is truly from an ambient temperature rise or by heat generated from vehicle heat surrounding the sensor.
The outside air temperature display in the IPC updates in the upward (hotter) direction quicker under the following situations:
- if the vehicle is driven (approximately 38 km/h [24 mph]) continuously without the vehicle speed dropping for approximately 90 seconds.
- if the vehicle is allowed to sit with the engine off for approximately 3 hours (the outside air temperature display in the IPC immediately updates to reflect the current ambient conditions since the engine has cooled sufficiently and no longer has an effect on the outside air temperature sensor reading).
- if the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor drops below 30° C (86°F).
Because this filtering strategy exists, it may be necessary to drive the vehicle continuously (approximately 38 km/h [24 mph]) for approximately 90 seconds when observing the outside air temperature display operation. After the vehicle has been driven (approximately 38 km/h [24 mph]) for 90 seconds, the outside air temperature display in the IPC should start to filter upward toward the actual outside air temperature. Depending on the difference between what the outside air temperature is displaying in the IPC and the actual outside temperature, it can take several minutes for the outside air temperature display in the IPC to reach the actual outside temperature.
The outside air temperature display in the IPC does not filter in the downward (colder) direction and always displays the coldest temperature detected by the sensor even when the vehicle is stationary and idling. When the outside ambient air temperature is lower than the temperature displayed in the IPC, the IPC immediately updates the displayed temperature downward to reflect the colder ambient air temperature, even at idle.
PRNDL Display
The IPC receives the transmission gear display, transmission gear display mode and transmission gear lever position messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the transmission gear display, transmission gear display mode and transmission gear lever position messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
The SelectShift® display indicates to the driver which gear is currently selected when the transmission is in the SelectShift® mode. When the transmission is in SelectShift® manual mode, the gear number is displayed in the IPC message center display.
