Rear Brake Pads - Vehicles With: Electronic Parking Brake (EPB): Installation

NOTE: Do not use a C-clamp to compress the brake caliper piston or damage the parking brake actuator motor may occur.

NOTE: Do not manually retract the piston or damage to the parking brake actuator may occur.

NOTE: Make sure that the brake hose is not twisted when installing the brake caliper or damage to the brake flexible hose may occur.

NOTE: Use care when pushing the caliper piston into the caliper piston bores or damage to components may occur.

Compress the disk brake caliper pistons into the brake caliper bore until the piston bottoms out in the brake caliper bore.
- NOTE: Do not apply greater than 133 lb.in (15 Nm) of torque when rotating the disk brake caliper piston or internal damage to the brake caliper may occur.
  
  If the brake caliper piston bottoms out and the piston is still not fully compressed, rotate the piston clockwise while pushing inward using a brake caliper piston retractor until the piston is fully compressed. Use the General Equipment: Brake Caliper Piston Retractor

Clean the brake pad to anchor plate contact surface.

NOTE: Make sure that the components are installed to the position noted before removal.
1. Start to install the clip from the top rail.
2. Install the clip over the lower abutment.
3. Apply pressure with fingers to fully seat the clip against bracket.

1. Position the upper tabs on both sides of the bracket boss.
2. Install the clip with rotation movement by pushing on upper and bottom areas.
3. Apply pressure with fingers to fully seat the clip against bracket.

Install the radial springs on the brake pad.

NOTE: Inner and outer brake pads are not interchangeable.
1. Install the brake pads at a downward angle to the caliper.
2. Push gently on pads in order to compress radial springs and push axially the pad towards the disc.

Ensure the inner brake pad with pin is aligned to the caliper piston groove.

NOTE: Make sure that the component is clean and free of foreign material.

NOTE: Below steps are required when guide rods do not move freely.
Clean the anchor plate bore using the specified material and a plastic wire brush.

Install the guide rod boots into the caliper anchor plate.

Lubricate the guide rod with grease supplied in service kit.

Orient and push guide rod all the way into caliper anchor plate bore. Ensure guide rods are properly sealed into the boots.

Rotate the guide rod to grease the complete surface. Pull the guide rod back and forth to evenly distribute the grease.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Deactivate the EPB service mode. Refer to: Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) Service Mode Activation and Deactivation .
Apply the brake pedal several times to verify correct brake system operation.
