Instrument Panel: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Depower the SRS Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .

    Vehicles with air conditioning 

  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging - Electric Motor (C0) .
  3. NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.
    NOTE: Only use the specified material to lubricate the seals.

    Remove the nut and remove the HVAC flange. On installation, install and lubricate new O-ring seals. Clamp and remove the heater hoses. Refer to: Specifications

    Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    Vehicles without air conditioning 

  4. NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.

    Clamp and disconnect the heater hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)

    All vehicles 

  5. Remove the front doors. Refer to: Front Door .
  6. On both sides. Remove the A-pillar trim panels. Refer to: A-Pillar Trim Panel .
  7. NOTE: Make sure that the steering column lock is engaged.
    NOTE: Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.
    NOTE: Make sure that the steering wheel does not rotate or damage to the clockspring may occur.

    Secure the steering wheel.

  8. WARNING: Do not reuse steering column nuts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).
    NOTE: The steering column is designed to absorb energy in a crash and must be handled carefully. The energy-absorbing steering column shaft cannot be subjected to force or impact shocks. Follow the removal procedure instructions carefully to avoid damage.
    NOTE: Make sure that the steering column lock is engaged.
    NOTE: Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.
    NOTE: Make sure a new bolt is installed.

    Remove the steering column shaft pinch bolt.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  9. Release the clips and remove the trim panel.

  18. Release the clips and remove the trim panels, remove the cup holder assembly.

  20. Remove the finish panel.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  24. Remove the retainers and the lower trim panel.

  26. Remove and disconnect center instrument panel trim panel.

    1. Release the retainers and remove the center instrument panel trim panel.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  27. On both sides. Remove the cover and the retainer.

    NOTE: The foldable cupholder is available as spare part and can be replaced separately, removal of floor console and trim panel is not necessary during the repair.
  29. Remove the retainers and the instrument panel center trim panel.

    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.

    All vehicles 

  30. Remove the retainers and the glove compartment close out.

  32. On both sides. Remove the bolts.

    Torque: 159 lb.in (18 Nm)

  42. NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.
    NOTE: Make sure not to damage the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.
    NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.

    Remove the instrument panel through the door opening.

    1. Remove the bolts.

      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

    1. Use Special Service Tool: 303-435 Mounting Stand., 501-404 Holding Tool, Instrument Panel.
    2. Torque

      : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    1. Remove the tolerance absorber.
