Block Heater: Removal

NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the LH fender splash shield, Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .

NOTE: Do not allow the steering column to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected or damage to the steering column internal sensor may result.
Using a holding device, hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.

NOTE: Underbody shields vary by model.
Remove the bolts and the underbody shield.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).NOTE: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring may result.NOTE: Underbody shields vary by model.
- Remove and discard the steering column shaft coupler retainer.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
- Separate the lower steering column shaft from the steering gear.
- Remove and discard the steering column shaft coupler retainer.

NOTE: Access the block heater from the inner fender well.NOTE: Make sure the block heater wiring is routed and secured away from rotating or hot components.
Disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
- Remove the block heater.
Torque: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)
