Valve Cover LH: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- Remove the following items:
- Intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
- Left hand ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .
- Remove the EGR cooler bolts.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

NOTE: The crankcase vent tube is equipped with a permanent connector at both ends. If the tube needs to be removed for any reason, the permanent connector(s) must be cut to remove the tube. The tube will then need to be replaced.
- Cut the crank case tube housing tabs.
- Cut off the crank case tube housing arm retaining feature.
- Remove and discard the crank case tube housing.
- Remove and discard the crank case tube retainer.
- Remove the oil level indicator.

- Slide the insulator up.
- Disconnect the CHT sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the wastegate control actuator electrical connector.
- Detach the engine wiring harness retainer.

- Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.
- Detach the engine wiring harness retainers and position the harness aside.
- Loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.

- Remove and discard the gasket.
- Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
- Inspect the spark plug seals. Remove any damaged seals using the special tools. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle, 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.
- Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
