Turbocharger RH: Removal
- If equipped, remove the engine rear undershield. Refer to: ENGINE REAR UNDERSHIELD .
- If equipped, remove the engine front undershield. Refer to: ENGINE FRONT UNDERSHIELD .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to: ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, VACUUM FILLING AND BLEEDING .
- Remove the front fender splash shield. Refer to: FENDER SPLASH SHIELD .

NOTE: This step is necessary only for right-hand drive vehicles.
Remove the steering column lower shaft. Refer to: STEERING COLUMN LOWER SHAFT
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe RH. Refer to: AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE RH .
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: AIR CLEANER .
- Remove the turbocharger outlet pipe RH. Refer to: TURBOCHARGER OUTLET PIPE RH .
- Remove the turbocharger oil supply tube bolts, then remove the turbocharger oil supply tube.
- Remove and discard the seals.

NOTE: Left side shown, right side is similar.
- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil supply tube oil filter.

NOTE: Do not use a metal brush, damage to sealing area will result in leaks.
Inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the seal areas. Use brake cleaner and a nylon brush to clean. Install new components as needed.

- Remove and discard the RH turbocharger exhaust flange nuts.

- Remove and discard the RH Catalytic converter flange nuts.
- Position and support the RH catalytic converter aside.

- Remove and discard the gasket.
- Clean and inspect the gasket surface.
- Remove and discard the RH turbocharger exhaust flange gasket.
- Remove the turbocharger coolant return tube bolt, then disconnect the turbocharger coolant return tube from the turbocharger and position it out of the way.

NOTE: Do not use a metal brush, damage to sealing area will result in leaks.
Inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Use brake cleaner and a nylon brush to clean. Install new components as needed.

- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

- Detach the wire harness retainers, then disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to: STARTER MOTOR .
- Remove the turbocharger oil return tube bolts, then remove the tube.

NOTE: Do not use a metal brush, damage to sealing area will result in leaks.
Inspect for blockage in the turbocharger tube. Check the tube, the sealing surfaces and the flange for flatness and damage. Use brake cleaner and a nylon brush to clean. Install new components as needed.

- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil return tube gasket.
- Remove the turbocharger coolant supply tube bolt.

- Remove the turbocharger coolant supply tube from the engine block while removing the turbocharger.
- Remove the turbocharger retainers, then remove the turbocharger.

NOTE: Do not use a metal brush, damage to sealing area will result in leaks.
Inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Use brake cleaner and a nylon brush to clean. Install new components as needed.

- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger gasket.
- Only if needed, remove the turbocharger mounting studs.
- Only if needed, remove the turbocharger exhaust flange studs.
- Only if needed, remove the bolt, then remove the turbocharger coolant supply tube.

NOTE: Do not use a metal brush, damage to sealing area will result in leaks.
If Removed, inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Use brake cleaner and a nylon brush to clean. Install new components as needed.

- If the turbocharger coolant supply tube was removed from the turbocharger, then remove and discard the O-ring seal.

NOTE: If the 2 piece turbocharger cooling tubes are separated or the rubber gasket is leaking, then the rubber gasket must be replaced.
If needed, then remove and discard the rubber gasket.

NOTE: Do not use a metal brush, damage to sealing area will result in leaks.
If needed, inspect and clean the turbocharger cooling tube sealing surfaces, using brake cleaner and a nylon brush to clean. Install new components as needed.

- Only if needed, remove the bolts, then remove the turbocharger heat shield.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
