Fuel Tank: Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures may be present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation steps.
  1. Refer to: Gasoline and Gasoline-Ethanol Fuel Systems Health and Safety Precautions .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  4. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  5. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .
    • Release the retainer clip.

    • Support the fuel tank with a transmission jack and remove the fuel tank strap bolts.

      Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

      Torque

      : 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    • Lower the fuel tank.

  6. Disconnect the electrical connectors and detach the wiring harness clip.

  7. NOTE: The procedure step requires the aid of the another technician.

    Remove the fuel tank.
