Fuel Lines: Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures may be present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Refer to: Gasoline and Gasoline-Ethanol Fuel Systems Health and Safety Precautions .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  3. With vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  4. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  5. Remove the high pressure fuel pump insulator shield.

  6. NOTE: Wrap the fuel line connector with a shop towel to absorb any residual fuel pressure during the removal of the fuel line.

    • Release the fuel lines routing retainer.

  7. Disconnect the quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  8. Vehicle equipped with extended range fuel tank Disconnect the quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  9. NOTE: Vehicle body removed from art for clarity.
    NOTE: The fuel feed line should be removed from the bottom of the vehicle.

    • Release the retainers and remove the fuel lines.
