Pinpoint Test AP: The Low Washer Fluid Level Warning Message Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Low Washer Fluid Level. REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Washer fluid level switch
    • BCM concern
    • IPC

  2. AP1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Close all doors and the hood.

    • Clear all message center warnings by pressing the OK button for each warning present.

    • NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning is active.

      Monitor the door ajar message center warning.

    • Open the driver door.

    • Clear the message center popup warning.

    • Monitor the door ajar message center warning.

    Does the driver door ajar message center warning turn off with the driver door closed and turn on with the driver door open? 

    Yes  If the low washer fluid level message is never on, GO to  AP2 If the low washer fluid level message is always on, GO to  AP5
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test A 
  3. AP2 CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID LEVEL SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Low Washer Fluid Level Switch C138.

    • Connect:
      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2

    • Ignition ON.

    • Monitor the low washer fluid indicator.

    Does the low washer fluid indicator turn on? 

    Yes  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new washer fluid level switch.
    No  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to  AP3
  4. AP3 CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID LEVEL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN AT THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AP4
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. AP4 CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID LEVEL SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect IPC C220.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AP7
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. AP5 CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID LEVEL SWITCH FOR SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Low Washer Fluid Level Switch C138.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Wait one minute.

    • Monitor the low washer fluid level warning message.

    Does the low washer fluid warning message turn off? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new washer fluid level switch.
    No  GO to  AP6
  7. AP6 CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID LEVEL SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect IPC C220.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AP7
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. AP7 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, Install a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
