Pinpoint Test T: The Powertrain Malfunction (Wrench) Indicator Is Never Or Always On

If the engine service required, transmission service required or body service required message is missing or invalid for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator to the last state (on or off) based upon the last message received.
If the engine service required, transmission service required or body service required message is missing or invalid for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator on.

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
If the oil change required message is displayed in the message center, reset the oil life monitor. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- T1 CARRY OUT THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator (TRANSA_LMP) PID.
- Command the powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator on then off while observing the door ajar warning indicator.
Does the powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes GO to T2 No INSTALL a new IPC.Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - T2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: IPC . No GO to T3 - T3 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) . No GO to T4 - T4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Communications Network . No If the powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator is always on, DIAGNOSE all PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article . If the powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator is never on, the system is operating correctly at this time.
