Pinpoint Test AU: The Ignition-Engine On (Vehicle On) Warning Message Is Never Or Always Displayed

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Ignition-Engine On (Vehicle On). REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Interior lighting concern
    • PRNDL indication concern
    • BCM concern
    • SOBDMC concern
    • PCM concern
    • GWM concern
    • IPC

  2. AU1 VERIFY MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Verify with the customer the near navigation feature display functions correctly.

    Does the near navigation feature display function correctly? 

    Yes  GO to  AU2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test A 

  3. AU2 CHECK THE PRNDL OPERATION

    • Shift the transmission through the ranges while observing the PRNDL indication.

    Does the PRNDL indication match the selected transmission range? 

    Yes  GO to  AU3
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test AC 

  4. AU3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  AU4

  5. AU4 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the Master DTC Chart.
    No  GO to  AU5

  6. AU5 PERFORM THE SOBDMC (SECONDARY ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC CONTROL MODULE C) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SOBDMC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the Master DTC Chart.
    No  GO to  AU6

  7. AU6 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the Master DTC Chart.
    No  GO to  AU7

  8. AU7 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Controller Area Network (CAN) Module Communications Network .
    No  GO to  AU8

  9. AU8 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
