Pinpoint Test H: The Tachometer Is Inoperative (Analog IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster))

If the IPC does not receive the engine rpm data from the PCM for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the tachometer to 0 rpm.

- H1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
- Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . No GO to H2 - H2 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Communications Network No GO to H3 - H3 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the KOEO self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article. No GO to H4 - H4 PERFORM THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC tachometer (TACH_IND) PID.

NOTE: Make sure to set the diagnostic scan tool to 0 rpm before beginning this step.
Command the tachometer on and off while monitoring the tachometer.
Does the tachometer begin at 0 rpm and increase to approximately 800 rpm and return to 0 rpm?
Yes Refer to PCM Guided Routine . No INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
