Pinpoint Test Y: The Rear Fog Lamp Indicator Is Never Or Always On (If Equipped)

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Rear Fog Lamp Indicator. REFER to: Fog Lamps .

    If the rear fog lamp indicator request is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the rear fog lamps indicator to its last indication state (on or off), based upon the last message received.

    If the rear fog lamp indicator request is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the rear fog lamps indicator off.

    Possible Sources 

    • Rear fog lamp concern
    • Communication concern
    • GWM concern
    • BCM
    • IPC

  2. Y1 CHECK THE REAR FOG LAMPS OPERATION

    • Turn the rear fog lamps on.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Observe the rear fog lamps when on then when turned off.

    Do the rear fog lamps operate correctly when turned on and off? 

    Yes  GO to  Y2
    No  REFER to: Fog Lamps

  3. Y2 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  GO to  Y3

  4. Y3 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM)
    No  GO to  Y4

  5. Y4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network
    No  GO to  Y5

  6. Y5 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC rear fog lamp indicator (R_FOG_IND) PID.

    • Command the rear fog lamp indicator on and off while observing the indicator.

    Does the rear fog lamp indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
