Pinpoint Test T: The Led (Light Emitting Diode) Low Beam Malfunction Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See LED Low Beam Malfunction Indicator. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the headlamp low beam out message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the LED low beam malfunction indicator to its last indication state (on or off), based upon the last message received.

    If the headlamp low beam out message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the LED low beam malfunction indicator off.

    Possible Sources 

    • Low beam lighting concern
    • Communication concern
    • BCM
    • GWM concern
    • IPC

  2. T1 DETERMINE THE FAULT CONDITION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Check the operation of the low beam headlamps.

    Do the low beam headlamps operate correctly? 

    Yes  GO to  T2
    No  REFER to: Headlamps

  3. T2 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network
    No  GO to  T3

  4. T3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  GO to  T4

  5. T4 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM)
    No  GO to  T5

  6. T5 CHECK THE LED (LIGHT EMITTING DIODE) LOW BEAM MALFUNCTION INDICATOR OPERATION USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC LED low beam malfunction indicator (A_F_LIGHT_F) PID.

    • Command the LED low beam malfunction indicator on then off. Observe the LED low beam malfunction indicator.

    Does the LED low beam malfunction indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
