Pinpoint Test Bn: The Ignition-Engine On Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Ignition-Engine On Warning Chime. REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Interior lighting concern
    • PRNDL indication concern
    • GWM concern
    • BCM concern
    • PCM concern
    • IPC

  2. BN1 CHECK THE SEATBELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Unbuckle the driver seatbelt.

    • Monitor the seatbelt warning chime when the ignition is transitioned from OFF to RUN for 6 seconds.

    Does the seatbelt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds? 

    Yes  GO to  BN2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test BV 

  3. BN2 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR INDICATION

    • Open the driver door.

    • Observe the door ajar warning indicator or door ajar message center warning indicator.

    Does the door ajar warning indicator or door ajar message center warning indicator turn on with the driver door ajar? 

    Yes  GO to  BN3
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test AO 

  4. BN3 CHECK THE PRNDL OPERATION

    • Shift the transmission through the ranges while observing the PRNDL indication.

    Does the PRNDL indication match the selected transmission range? 

    Yes  GO to  BN4
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test X 

  5. BN4 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  GO to  BN5

  6. BN5 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM)
    No  GO to  BN6

  7. BN6 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article.
    No  GO to  BN7

  8. BN7 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
