Pinpoint Test AJ: The Performance Shift Indication Is Inoperative (Digital IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster))

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Performance Shift Display. REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the engine rpm data or track key mode messages are missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the performance shift display off.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • Tachometer concern
    • BCM concern
    • GWM concern
    • IPC

  2. AJ1 VERIFY THE PERFORMANCE SHIFT LIGHT MODE IS ENABLED THROUGH THE MESSAGE CENTER

    • Ignition ON.

    • NOTE: The IPC and message center navigation can be found in the Owner's Literature.

      Using the message center controls, verify the performance shift light mode is enabled in the current display mode and a desired shift point is selected above 4, 000 RPM.

    Is the performance shift light mode enabled in the current display mode and the desired shift point selected above 4, 000 RPM? 

    Yes  GO to  AJ2
    No  The system is operating correctly. The performance shift indicator was not enabled or correctly set up.

  3. AJ2 CHECK THE TACHOMETER OPERATION

    • Monitor the tachometer operation.

    Does the tachometer operate? 

    Yes  GO to  AJ3
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test C 

  4. AJ3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  GO to  AJ4

  5. AJ4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network
    No  GO to  AJ5

  6. AJ5 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM)
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
