Instrument Panel: Removal

All vehicles 

1. Position both front seats fully rearward.

2. Depower the SRS. Refer to: SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING .
3. Remove the cowl panel grille. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille
4. Remove the wiper linkage assembly mounting bolts and position aside.

   Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

5. NOTE: Use new factory bolt and washer assemblies or water leaks may occur.
   NOTE: Discard the upper instrument panel cowl bolts.

   Remove the instrument panel cowl bolts.

   Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

6. Remove the floor console. Refer to: Floor Console .

   Vehicles with automatic transmission 

7. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview
8. Remove the selector lever cable bracket bolt and remove the selector lever cable.

   Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

9. Remove the selector lever assembly.
   • Disconnect the electrical connector.

     Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

   All vehicles 

10. Remove both A-pillar trim panels. Refer to: A-Pillar Trim Panel - Coupe . Refer to: A-Pillar Trim Panel - Convertible
11. Position aside the weather strip, release the clips and remove the LH instrument panel finish panel.

12. Position aside the weather strip, release the clips and remove the RH instrument panel finish panel.

13. Release the clips and remove the RH scuff plate. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

14. Release the clips and remove the lower RH cowl trim panel.

15. Release the clips and remove the LH scuff plate. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

16. Remove the driver knee airbag. Refer to: Driver Knee Airbag
17. Remove the hood latch release handle. Refer to: Hood Latch Release Handle
18. Release the pin-type retainer, the clips and remove the LH cowl trim panel.

19. Disconnect the electrical connectors and release the electrical harness retainer.

20. WARNING: WARNING: DO NOT hammer, pry or force steering column and column shafts during installation or removal. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.
    WARNING: WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).
    NOTE: Secure the steering wheel from rotating to prevent damage to clock spring.
    NOTE: Placing the Steering Column in the Tilt UP position will make shaft disconnection easier.

    Remove and discard the upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt and the position aside the upper steering column shaft.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

21. Disconnect the electrical connectors, release the electrical harness retainer(s) and position the electrical harness aside.

22. Remove the push pins and remove the RH insulation panel.
    • Remove the insulation panel ambient light.

23. Disconnect the electrical connectors and detach the connector push pin at the RH lower cowl.

24. Disconnect the electrical connectors behind the glove compartment.

25. Remove the RH center instrument panel bolts.

    Torque: 17 lb.ft (22.5 Nm)

26. Remove the LH center instrument panel bolts.

27. Remove the trim cover. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

28. Remove the 2 bolts the push pin and the instrument panel center bracket.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

29. Release the emergency brake.

30. NOTE: The A-pillar to in-vehicle cross beam instrument panel bolts cannot be removed from the A-pillar with the door attached.

    Loosen the RH A-pillar to in-vehicle cross beam instrument panel bolts and slide the bolts outward as far as possible.

    Torque: 17 lb.ft (22.5 Nm)

31. NOTE: The A-pillar to in-vehicle cross beam instrument panel bolts cannot be removed from the A-pillar with the door attached.

    Completely loosen the LH A-pillar to in-vehicle cross beam instrument panel bolts and slide the bolts outward as far as possible.

    Torque: 17 lb.ft (22.5 Nm)

    Disconnect the A-pillar electrical connectors and detach the harness retainers.

35. NOTE: Seats shown removed for clarity.
    NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.
    NOTE: Make sure not to damage the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.
    NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.

    Rotate the instrument panel face down and remove through the LH front door opening.
