Pinpoint Test E: Clutch Transmission Fluid Cooler Cooling Fan, GEARSET Transmission Fluid Cooler Cooling Fan And/Or Engine Oil Cooler Cooling Fan Always On

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The clutch transmission fluid cooler cooling fan, gearset transmission fluid cooler cooling fan and engine oil cooler cooling fan each receive power through their own fuses and relays. All 3 relays are controlled by the TCM through a common control circuit. All 3 fans also share a common ground.
Possible Sources
- Circuit shorted
- TCM
- E1 VERIFY THE CONCERN
- Road test the vehicle and verify the operation of the following components:
- Clutch transmission fluid cooler cooling fan
- Gearset transmission fluid cooler cooling fan
- Engine oil cooler cooling fan
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0692 and/or P0694 present, or are any of the fans always on?
Yes If all three cooling fans are always on, GO to E2 If only the clutch transmission fluid cooler cooling fan is always on, GO to E3 If only the gearset transmission fluid cooler cooling fan is always on, GO to E4 If only the engine oil cooler cooling fan is always on, GO to E5 No The concern is not present at this time. REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction and INSPECT the system for any damage or corrosion that could cause an intermittent fault. REPAIR as necessary. - Road test the vehicle and verify the operation of the following components:
- E2 CHECK CIRCUIT TCMC1 FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect TCM C4555B.
Did the fans turn off?
Yes INSTALL a new TCM. No REPAIR the solenoid control circuit for a short to ground. - E3 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH OIL COOLER RELAY
- Remove the transmission clutch oil cooler relay.
Did the fan turn off?
Yes INSTALL a new transmission clutch oil cooler relay. No REPAIR circuit TCOF1 for a short to power. - E4 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION GEAR OIL COOLING FAN RELAY
- Remove the transmission gear oil cooling fan relay.
Did the fan turn off?
Yes INSTALL a new transmission gear oil cooling fan relay. No REPAIR circuit GRF1 for a short to power. - E5 CHECK THE ENGINE OIL COOLER RELAY
- Remove the engine oil cooler relay.
Did the fan turn off?
Yes INSTALL a new engine oil cooler relay. No REPAIR circuit ENGF1 for a short to power.
