Turbocharger Oil Supply Tube LH: Installation

  1. Lubricate the new turbocharger fitting and oil filter assembly O-ring seal with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

  2. NOTE: Do not use any brushes, damage to sealing area will result in leaks and possible internal turbo bearing damage.

    • Use brake cleaner on a lint free rag to remove the O-ring residue out of the turbocharger fitting to engine block O-ring bore. Inspect the area for deep scratches and gouges.

      Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

    1. Install and tighten the new turbocharger fitting and oil filter assembly into the engine block.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  3. NOTE: Do not use any brushes, damage to sealing area will result in leaks and possible internal turbo bearing damage.
    NOTE: During the torque process, care must be taken to ensure that the flare nut tightening does not kink the flex portion of the turbocharger oil supply tube or pushes any element of the turbocharger oil supply tube into the exhaust manifold or the turbocharger.
    NOTE: Ensure that the original turbocharger oil supply tube orientation and the clearances of turbocharger oil supply are maintained as noted during removal.
    NOTE: Install the new turbocharger oil supply tube, then loosely tighten the turbocharger oil supply tube flare nut and the turbocharger oil supply tube bolt.
    NOTE: Calculate the correct torque wrench setting for the following flare nut torque using the Torque Wrench Adapter Formulas below.

    • Use brake cleaner on a lint free rag to remove the O-ring residue out of the turbocharger fitting to engine block O-ring bore. Inspect the area for deep scratches and gouges.

      Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

    1. Tighten the turbocharger oil supply tube the flare nut and the bolt.

      Torque1. Flare nut. 21 lb.ft (29 Nm) 2. Bolt. Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) | Stage 2: Tighten an additional:: 30 deg.

  4. Install the turbocharger heat shield, apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads, then install and tighten the new retaining bolts and nut.

    Material: Bostik Never-Seez Regular Grade (nickel free) Anti-Seize and Lubricating Compound

    Torque: New upper bolt.: 106 lb.in (12 Nm) New lower bolt and new nut.: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

  5. Install the charge air cooler (CAC) intake pipe LH. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
  6. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe LH. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
  7. Install the air cleaner LH. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
  8. Check and top off the engine oil level as needed. Refer to: Specifications .
