Pinpoint Test AQ : The Engine Hours And Engine Idle Hours Display Is Inoperative (Police Only)

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Engine Idle Hour and Engine Hours Displays (Police Only). REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the engine rpm data message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the engine hours and engine idle hours displays based on the last message received.

    If the vehicle speed message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the engine hours and engine idle hours to the last displayed value with no additional accumulation.

    Possible Sources 

    • Speedometer indication concern
    • Tachometer indication concern
    • PCM concern
    • GWM concern
    • IPC

  2. AQ1 VERIFY THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) IS SET TO THE ENGINE HOUR OR ENGINE IDLE HOUR DISPLAY SCREEN

    • Ignition ON.

    • NOTE: The IPC and message center navigation can be found in the Owner's Literature.

      Using the message center controls, make sure the IPC is set to display the engine hours or engine idle hour display screen.

    Is the IPC set to the engine hours or engine idle hour display screen? 

    Yes  GO to  AQ2
    No  The engine hours or engine idle hour display is operating correctly. The IPC was not set to the correct display screen.
  3. AQ2 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM self-test.

    • Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article.
    No  GO to  AQ3
  4. AQ3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network .
    No  GO to  AQ4
  5. AQ4 CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Verify the speedometer operates correctly.

    Does the speedometer operate correctly? 

    Yes  For the engine idle hour display, GO to  AQ5 For the engine hour display, GO to  AQ6
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test E 
  6. AQ5 CHECK THE TACHOMETER FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Verify the tachometer operates correctly.

    Does the tachometer operate correctly? 

    Yes  GO to  AQ6
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test H 
  7. AQ6 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  AQ7
  8. AQ7 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
