Catalytic Converter RH: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: If the catalytic converter is not being replaced, the HO2S and the catalyst monitor sensor do not need to be removed from the catalytic converter. Disconnecting the electrical connectors is still necessary.
NOTE: The exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter is a 2-piece assembly. The LH and RH converters can be serviced separately as needed.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the RH side exhaust flexible pipe. Refer to: Exhaust Flexible Pipe .
  3. On both sides.

    • Remove the wheel arch liner to front subframe retainers.

  4. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

  5. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

  6. Position the adjustable jack stand under the transmission system mount bracket.

  7. Remove and discard the transmission mount bracket bolts.

    Torque: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)

  8. Lower the transmission system.

  9. Remove the steering shield pin-type retainers from the RH subframe.

  10. Remove the pin-type retainers and the steering shield from the RH subframe.

  11. Remove the bolt and position the RH underbody shield aside.

    Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

  12. Remove the bolt and position the LH underbody shield aside.

    Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

  13. Remove the pin-type retainers and the steering shield from the LH subframe.

  14. Loosen the middle subframe bolts.

    Torque: 195 lb.ft (265 Nm)

    • Support the rear of the subframe with adjustable jack stand.

    • NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing rear subframe bolts.

      Loosen the front subframe bolts.

      Torque: 52 lb.ft (70 Nm)

    • Lower the subframe.

  15. Remove the RH catalytic converter nuts and discard.

  16. If equipped.

    • Remove the transmission cooler hose bracket nut.

  17. Remove the bracket studs and nuts. Remove the RH catalytic converter from the vehicle.

  18. Clean and inspect the studs and the gasket surface, replace the studs if necessary.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
