Thermostat Housing: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  2. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    • Detach the coolant hose retainers and the electrical wiring harness retainer.

    • Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Remove the bolt and position the degas bottle aside.

      Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  3. NOTE: Cover the accessory drive belts to prevent coolant contamination of the belts.

    Completely cover the accessory drive belts with waterproof plastic.

    • Detach the coolant hose retainers.

    • Remove the bolts and the air cleaner support bracket.

      Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)

  4. Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  5. Remove the bolts and the thermostat housing.

    Torque: Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) - - Stage 2: 45°

  6. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

  7. Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if necessary.
