Upper Intake Manifold: Removal

NOTE:
If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.
- Remove the bolts and the suspension support bar.
- Remove the following items:
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Position the crankcase vent tube away from the intake manifold.

- Detach the coolant hose retainers.
- Remove the bolts and the air cleaner bracket.
- Remove the coolant tube bolts from the intake manifold.
- Release the coolant hose retaining clip from the intake manifold.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers from the RH side of the intake manifold.

- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve tube quick connect coupling from the intake manifold. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING - 3.3L .
- Detach the EVAP canister purge valve tube retainers from the intake manifold.
- Detach the EVAP canister purge valve from the intake manifold tab and position aside.

- Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector and wire harness retainer.
- Remove bolts and the upper intake manifold support bracket.
- Disconnect the PCV tube quick connect coupling from the intake manifold. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING - 3.3L

- Remove the following items:
- Remove the differential pressure feedback EGR valve sensor. Refer to: Differential Pressure Feedback Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Sensor .
- Remove the EGR valve outlet tube. Refer to: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Outlet Tube .

- Loosen the upper intake manifold bolts.
- With the aid of an assistant, position the upper intake manifold forward.
- Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
- With the aid of an assistant, remove the upper intake manifold.

- Visually inspect the upper intake manifold gaskets for nicks, cuts and abrasions. If these conditions are not present, the gaskets may be re-used.
- Clean and inspect all of the sealing surfaces of the upper and lower intake manifold.
