Upper Intake Manifold: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.
  1. Remove the bolts and the suspension support bar.

  2. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    2. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .

  3. Position the crankcase vent tube away from the intake manifold.

    • Detach the coolant hose retainers.

    • Remove the bolts and the air cleaner bracket.

  4. Remove the coolant tube bolts from the intake manifold.

  5. Release the coolant hose retaining clip from the intake manifold.

  6. Detach the wiring harness retainers from the RH side of the intake manifold.

    • Detach the EVAP canister purge valve tube retainers from the intake manifold.

    • Detach the EVAP canister purge valve from the intake manifold tab and position aside.

    • Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector and wire harness retainer.

    • Remove bolts and the upper intake manifold support bracket.

  7. Disconnect the PCV tube quick connect coupling from the intake manifold. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING - 3.3L .

  8. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the differential pressure feedback EGR valve sensor. Refer to: Differential Pressure Feedback Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Sensor .
    2. Remove the EGR valve outlet tube. Refer to: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Outlet Tube .

    1. Loosen the upper intake manifold bolts.
    2. With the aid of an assistant, position the upper intake manifold forward.
    3. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
    4. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

  9. With the aid of an assistant, remove the upper intake manifold.

    • Visually inspect the upper intake manifold gaskets for nicks, cuts and abrasions. If these conditions are not present, the gaskets may be re-used.

    • Clean and inspect all of the sealing surfaces of the upper and lower intake manifold.
