Cylinder Head RH: Removal
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the following items:
- Front wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
- LH side. Refer to: Halfshaft .
- LH and RH exhaust flexible pipes. Refer to: Exhaust Flexible Pipe .
- Remove the fasteners and the exhaust crossmember.
- Remove the bolts and the transfer case heat shield.

NOTE: Take extra care not to damage the component.
Position aside and support the rear driveshaft.
- Mark the driveshaft flex coupling to the transfer case flange.
- Remove and discard the driveshaft flex coupling to transfer case flange bolts.
- Separate the driveshaft flex coupling from the transfer case flange and support the driveshaft.
- Detach the transfer case vent hose and position aside.
- Disconnect the transfer case motor assembly electrical connector and position the wiring harness aside.
- Remove the retainers and the heat shield.

NOTE: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety strap.NOTE: Make sure the transmission jack makes contact on the outer ribs of the transmission fluid pan.
Using a high-lift transmission jack, support the transmission. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack, Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap
- Remove the transfer case mounting bolts and nut.
- Remove the bolts and the transmission support crossmember.
- Remove the transfer case to transmission bolts.
- Remove the transfer case to transmission bolts.

NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
Remove the transfer case from the transmission.
- Lower the transmission jack 32 mm (1.25 in). Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack, Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap

- Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
-
- Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
-
NOTE: Body of vehicle removed from graphic for clarity.
- Remove the nuts and the RH catalytic converter.
- Discard the nuts.
-
- Remove and discard the gasket.
- If damaged, remove and discard the studs.

NOTE: Transmission removed from view for clarity.
Remove the fasteners and the heat shield.

NOTE: Transmission removed from view for clarity.
Using the special tools, remove the front drive shaft. Use Special Service Tool: 100-001 (T50T-100-A) Slide Hammer, 205-832 Remover, Halfshaft.
- Remove and discard the front axle pinion stem circlip.
- Remove and discard the front axle pinion stem O-ring.
- Raise the transmission jack 32 mm (1.25 in). Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack, Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap

NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
Install the transfer case onto the transmission.
- Install the transfer case to transmission bolts.
- Install the transfer case to transmission bolts.
- Install the transmission support crossmember and the bolts.
- Install the transfer case mounting bolts and nut.
- Remove the high-lift transmission jack Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack, Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Oil Pan .
- Refer to: Degas Bottle .
- Refer to: Valve Cover RH .
- Refer to: Valve Cover LH .
- Refer to: Vacuum Pump .
- Refer to: Oil Cooler .
- LH side. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
- Remove the bolt and position the ground cable aside.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the bolt and position the ground cable aside.
- Release the clamps and disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
- Position the hoses aside.
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .
- Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner .

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the thermostat housing. The coolant pump and thermostat housing can be removed as an assembly.
Refer to: Coolant Pump .
- Refer to: Generator - 3.0L EcoBoost .
- Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the RH turbocharger oil supply tube.
- Remove the bolt, then disconnect the RH turbocharger coolant return tube.
- Release the clamp, then disconnect and remove the RH turbocharger coolant return tube. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover /Installer

Inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Install new components if needed.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger coolant return tube O-ring seal.

- Release the clamp and disconnect the RH turbocharger wastegate control vacuum hose.
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the RH turbocharger coolant supply tube.
- Remove the RH turbocharger nuts.
- Remove the RH turbocharger studs.

NOTE: The engine mounts and subframe will be temporarily installed to support the engine, do not discard the fasteners until instructed to do so.
Remove the engine mounts. Refer to: Engine Mount LH . Refer to: Engine Mount RH .

NOTE: The RH turbocharger oil return tube cannot be removed until after the turbocharger has been removed.
Remove the bolts and position the RH turbocharger oil return tube aside.
- Remove the bolt and the RH turbocharger and gasket. Discard the gasket.
- Remove the RH turbocharger oil return tube.

NOTE: Use brake cleaner and a nylon brush to clean. Do not use a metal brush, damage to sealing area will result in leaks.
Inspect for blockage in the turbocharger tube. Check the tube, the sealing surfaces and the flange for flatness and damage. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Install new components if needed.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil return tube O-ring seal.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil return tube tube-to-engine block gasket.
- Remove the bolt and the turbocharger oil supply tube.

Inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Install new components if needed.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil supply tube O-ring seals and the turbocharger oil supply tube oil filter.

- Remove the bolt and the turbocharger coolant supply tube.

NOTE: Use brake cleaner and a nylon brush to clean. Do not use a metal brush, damage to sealing area will result in leaks.
Inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Install new components if needed.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger coolant return tube O-ring seals.

- Position the RH engine mount and install the original studs.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the original bolts and nuts finger-tight and then tighten in sequence.
Torque: Stage 1: 66 lb.ft (90 Nm) - Stage 2: 90°.
- Remove the wire harness bracket bolt and position the bracket aside.
- Remove the bolts and the LH turbocharger oil return tube.

Inspect for blockage in the turbocharger tube. Check the tube, the sealing surfaces and the flange for flatness and damage. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Install new components if needed.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil return tube O-ring seal.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger oil return tube tube-to-engine block gasket.
- Disconnect the front axle disconnect actuator electrical connector and vent hose.
- Remove the bolts and the front axle disconnect actuator.
- Remove and discard the seal.
- Install the LH engine mount, the original bolts finger-tight and then tighten in sequence.
Torque: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that the LH and RH engine mount studs are in the subframe when raised.
With the aid of an assistant, raise the front and rear jack stand evenly.
- Install the original front subframe bolts finger tight.
- Install the original middle subframe bolts finger tight.
- Install the original rear subframe bolts finger tight.
- Tighten the front subframe bolts.
Torque: 195 lb.ft (265 Nm)
- Tighten the middle subframe bolts.
Torque: 195 lb.ft (265 Nm)
- Tighten the rear subframe bolts.
Torque: 52 lb.ft (70 Nm)
- Remove adjustable jack stands.
- Remove Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine.
- Remove the two M8 x 1.25 x 105 mm bolts, two washers, and the special tools. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.
- Remove the bolts and the heat shield.
- Remove the bolt, then disconnect the turbocharger coolant return tube from the turbocharger.
- Release the clamp, then disconnect and remove the turbocharger coolant return tube. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover /Installer

- Remove the turbocharger oil supply tube bolt, then disconnect the turbocharger oil supply tube.
- Disconnect the clamp and the turbocharger wastegate control hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover /Installer
- Remove the turbocharger coolant supply tube bolt, then remove the outer tube.

Inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger coolant supply tube O-ring seal. Inspect the rubber gasket. Install new components if needed.

- Remove the upper turbocharger nuts.
- Remove the turbocharger studs.
- Remove the turbocharger bolt, then remove the turbocharger and gasket. Discard the gasket.
- Remove the turbocharger oil supply tube bolt, then disconnect the turbocharger oil supply tube from the turbocharger.

- Remove and discard the turbocharger coolant return tube O-ring seals.

- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connectors.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the bolts.
- Position the A/C compressor aside.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.

NOTE: There are 5 different types of fasteners, note location of each fastener for assembly.
Remove the engine front cover fasteners.
- Using a large flat-bladed screwdriver and the indicated pry pads, release the sealer and remove the engine front cover. Use the General Equipment: Flat-Bladed Screwdriver
- Remove and discard the engine front cover gaskets.
- Remove and discard the oil gallery seal (6G068).

NOTE: Only use a 3M™ Roloc® Bristle Disk (2-in white, part number 07528) to clean the engine front cover. Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes or any other power abrasive disk to clean front cover.
- Clean the engine front cover using a 3M™ Roloc® Bristle Disk (2-in white, part number 07528) in a suitable tool turning at the recommended speed of 15, 000 RPM. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
- Thoroughly wash the engine front cover to remove any foreign material, including any abrasive particles created during the cleaning process.

NOTE: Place clean, lint-free shop towels over exposed engine cavities. Carefully remove the towels so foreign material is not dropped into the engine. Any foreign material (including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces) that enters the oil passages may cause engine failure.NOTE: Do not use wire brushes, power abrasive discs or 3M™ Roloc® Bristle Disk (2-in white part number 07528) to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges that make leak paths. They also cause contamination that will cause premature engine failure. Remove all traces of the gasket.
Make sure that the mating faces of the engine block are clean and free of foreign material. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation . Use the General Equipment: Plastic Scraper

- Remove the RH (right hand) VCT units. Refer to: Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) Unit .

NOTE: The front camshaft bearing mega cap must be removed first and then the remaining camshaft bearing caps. Failure to follow this direction may result in damage to the engine.
Remove the bolts and the front camshaft bearing mega cap.
- Remove the bolts and the camshaft bearing caps.
- Remove the intake and exhaust camshafts.

- Remove the camshaft roller follower and hydraulic lash adjuster assemblies.
- Separate the hydraulic lash adjusters from the spring clips on the camshaft roller followers.
- Inspect the hydraulic lash adjuster and roller follower for damage. If any damage is found, inspect the camshaft lobes and valves for damage. Replace damaged components as necessary.
- Remove the RH cylinder head to coolant outlet connector hose assembly. Refer to: Cylinder Head to Coolant Outlet Connector Hose Assembly .

- Loosen the fuel rail-to-fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts.
- Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel tube.
-
- Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.
- Remove the cylinder head.
- Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
-
- Clean and inspect the cylinder head-to-cylinder block mating surfaces of both the cylinder head and the cylinder block.
