Pinpoint Test J: The Analog Engine Temperature Gauge Is Inoperative
- J1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
- Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes Refer to DTC Chart: IPC in this article. Refer to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . No GO to J2 - J2 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCMKOEO self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes Refer to: Electronic Engine Controls . No GO to J3 - J3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes Refer to: Communications Network . No GO to J4 - J4 PERFORM THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Access the IPC and control the ENGCOOLNT (%) PID

NOTE: Make sure to set the scan tool to 0 or full cold before beginning this step.
Command the temperature gauge on and off while monitoring the temperature gauge.
Does the temperature gauge start at cold (C), move to full hot (H) and return to cold (C)?
Yes Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING No A guided routine is not applicable for this vehicle and market. Replace the component that was faulted through diagnosis.
