Pinpoint Test N : The Analog Transmission Temperature Gauge Is Inoperative

  1. N1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    • Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  GO to  N2
  2. N2 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network .
    No  GO to  N3
  3. N3 PERFORM THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE GAUGE ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC transmission temperature gauge (TRANS_TEMP) PID.

    • NOTE: Make sure to set the diagnostic scan tool to 0 or full cold before beginning this step.

      Command the transmission temperature gauge on and off while monitoring the transmission temperature gauge.

    Does the transmission temperature gauge start at cold (C), move to full hot (H) and return to cold (C)? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE all PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article.
    No  Refer to IPC Hardware Testing .
