Pinpoint Test C: The Hybrid Virtual Power Gauge Is Inoperative

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Power Gauge. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    For the HEV, the power gauge replaces the tachometer in the IPC when the driver selects to display the gauge. The tachometer is then displayed as an information on-demand display in the message center.

    If the power regeneration average display message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the data displayed in the power gauge to the last indication state, based upon the last message received.

    If the power regeneration average display message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the data displayed in the power gauge to 0.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • GWM
    • SOBDMC
    • IPC

  2. C1 VERIFY THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) IS SET TO DISPLAY THE GAUGE

    • Ignition ON.

    • NOTE: The IPC and message center navigation can be found in the Owner's Literature.

      Using the message center controls, make sure the IPC is set to display the gauge in question.

    Is the IPC set to display the gauge? 

    Yes  GO to  C2
    No  The virtual gauge is operating correctly. The IPC was not set to display the gauge in question.
  3. C2 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    • Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the IPC DTC Chart.
    No  GO to  C3
  4. C3 PERFORM THE SOBDMC (SECONDARY ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC CONTROL MODULE C) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SOBDMC self-test.

    • Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  Refer to ENGINE CONTROLS - INTRODUCTION (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID)
    No  GO to  C4
  5. C4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network
    No  GO to  C5
  6. C5 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
