Pinpoint Test Bu: The Engine Oil Life Message Is Never Displayed

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Engine Oil Life message. REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Message center concern
    • The PCM has not reached the programmed mileage/time based on the criteria required to display the message.

  2. BU1 VERIFY MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Open then close the driver door while observing the message center.

    Does the driver door ajar message appear in the message center with the driver door ajar and turn off with the driver door closed? 

    Yes  GO to  BU2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test T 
  3. BU2 VERIFY ENGINE OIL LIFE

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using the system check in the message center, verify the engine oil life is between 1% and 5% for the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message or at 0% for the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message.

    Is the engine oil life is between 1% and 5% for the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message or at 0% for the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message? 

    Yes  GO to  BU3
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. INFORM the customer how the message center functions and how the engine oil life messages are set.
  4. BU3 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
