Pinpoint Test BT: The Engine Oil Change Message Always Displayed

Possible Sources
- Engine oil life requires reset
- Message center switch concern
- PCM
- GWM concern
- IPC
- BT1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER SWITCH OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Close all doors and the hood.
- Ignition ON.
- Once the IPC has completed its prove-out and is in normal operation mode, open the driver door.
- Press the OK button to clear the door ajar warning message.
Does the door ajar warning message clear?
Yes GO to BT2 No DIAGNOSE the message center switch. GO to Pinpoint Test AR - BT2 RESET THE ENGINE OIL LIFE

Using the message center, reset the oil life.
Does the engine oil change message clear?
Yes The system is operating correctly. EXPLAIN to the customer how to reset the engine oil life. No GO to BT3 -
- BT3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: IPC in this information. No GO to BT4 - BT4 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCMKOEO self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to the Master DTC Chart. No GO to BT5 - BT5 CHECK FOR RECENT SERVICE HISTORY
- CHECK the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to PCM or IPC software updates.
Was the software updated in either the PCM or IPC?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, UPDATE the software in the module in question. ATTEMPT to reset the oil life again. If the engine oil change message cannot be cleared, INSTALL a new module in question. For the PCM, Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
For the IPC, GO to BT6No Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
If the oil life still cannot be reset, GO to BT6 - BT6 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
