Pinpoint Test C: Clutch Drag Or Hard To Shift

- Verify customer complaint. Check all gears
Does the clutch drag or hard shift occur in all gears or in a specific gear(s)?
Yes All gears. GO to C2 Yes Specific gear(s) - CHECK shifter cables and transmission assembly. REFER to: Clutch Controls . , REFER to: Manual Transmission . - C2 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE CLUTCH PEDAL
- Check the clutch pedal for obstruction (such as floor mat touching the pedal arm, etc). Remove any obstruction.
- Bleed the clutch system. REFER to: Clutch System Bleeding .
- Check the clutch pedal free play.
Does the clutch properly disengage after bleeding?
Yes Clutch system is OK. No GO to C3 - C3 CHECK CLUTCH FLUID LEVEL
- Check the clutch fluid level.
Is the clutch fluid level between the MAX and MIN marks on the brake fluid reservoir?
Yes GO to C4 No FILL reservoir to specification, CHECK the brake and clutch systems for leaks. REPLACE leaking component. - C4 CHECK THE CLUTCH DISC AND PRESSURE PLATE
- Visually check the clutch disc and pressure plate.
Is the clutch disc and pressure plate worn or damaged (such as broken components, damaged pressure plate surface or damaged spline)?
Yes INSTALL a new clutch disc and pressure plate. REFER to: Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate . TEST the system for normal operation. No GO to C5 - C5 CHECK THE INPUT SHAFT SPLINES
- Check that the clutch disc slides freely on the input shaft splines.
Does the clutch disc stick on the input shaft?
Yes CHECK the clutch disc and input shaft splines for damage. INSTALL new components as necessary. CHECK if there is sufficient grease on the input shaft. If not apply a thin film of grease (WSS-M1C273-A). Important: Input shaft must be free from grease accumulation to avoid contamination of clutch disc. If required wipe the excessive grease with a clean cloth. TEST the system for normal operation. No MEASURE the crankshaft end play. REFER to: Engine .
